So funny (not really) you picked me, the animal non lover, to shout out too. I would never be so kind to bugs that eat my garden. I use That's It for everything and that is it. :)

I myself find that zucchini gets a bitter taste if it gets past the small, immature size, but maybe my taste buds are too sensitive. Homegrown zucchini definitely tastes better than commercially grown.

Definitely not too late, Charlotte. They'll have a slow start since the days are so short, but they will fix nitrogen no matter. Then, they will grow really fast in the spring and I'll bet you'll get a good crop of beans anyway.

Thanks, Laurie! I'm making my last batch of sauce this week. A few tomatoes left that aren't very flavorful will make a great sauce nonetheless (along with some peppers onions, squash, plums etc :) )

I loved your book and reference it often to get my creative cooking juices flowing. By the way this is the best tomato sauce recipe. I just used up the last of my tomatoes, summer squash, peppers and onions and
added ripe plums for perfection! Thank you Spring.

Hello Spring,

I so loved your book. In it you mentioned growing fava beans as a winter cover crop. There were no fava beans to be had in Davis but I got some Italian fava beans. Is it too late to plant them now do you think? I'm so not clear on fall/winter gardening!

Thanks for your lovely book.
